Training Tips

Looking for permanent weight loss in the new year? Most people say they have tried everything yet nothing seemed to work. They even tried every diet going, some would help with weight loss but once that diet was over they would put the weight back on……and more!!

Personal Trainer Ger Conroy – Mulhuddart Village, Dublin 15

If you want permanent weight loss all you need to do is follow these simple steps:

1. Set some goals!

If you start your weight loss journey without setting some goals you won’t last long!
Set a long term goal and a short term goal.

Long term goals:
Everyone needs a goal to work towards and keep them focused. It could be to have the body you always wanted for this year’s summer holiday, to get into that gorgeous wedding dress or even to look good in that little black dress for a birthday party!

Short term goals:
Short term goals should be set every week.
Each week follow a new nutrition plan. This way you won’t get sick of eating the same foods and it makes it easier to stick to.

Make sure to change your training plan each week to avoid getting bored of doing the same exercises and to ensure that different muscle fibres are hit each week – envisage those fantastic results!

2. Forget “fad diets”

So many people have tried some sort of “fad diet” over the years. Although sometimes they say it helped them lose weight, the weight was put back on once the diet stopped, as well as some extra unwanted lbs!

3. Don’t be afraid to eat “good fats”

Most people don’t realise if you want to lose weight you must eat foods containing “Good fats”
such as salmon, cashew nuts, avocado…..

4. Eat healthy

If you just focus on eating healthy foods and forget about the word “diet” you will soon look and feel amazing!

Mental Health & Fitness

Studies have shown 1 in 4 people in Ireland suffer with mental health related problems.

For this reason, doctors recommend that people suffering from mental health related issues should make time to do some form of exercise. This doesn’t mean you need to start training for a marathon, just simply get out for a walk or even go to a fitness class and relieve some of that stress.

Benefits of exercising

  • Relieve anxiety
  • Increase relaxation
  • Boost brain power
  • Improve self-confidence

Physical activity increases the flow of oxygen to your brain and increases the amount of endorphins, (feel-good chemicals) in the brain. For this reason, it’s not surprising that people who are in good physical shape also tend to enjoy a higher level of mental agility.

Regardless of age or fitness level, studies show that making time for exercise provides some serious mental benefits. We are very good at helping others out when in need but don’t forget to look after yourself too!
