Stephen Gray from Kildare leads the way

The annual Kilkenny College TY Tractor Run took place on Thursday 28th April, 2016 in very unseasonal weather conditions: the rain, sleet and biting cold temperatures did not deter the young drivers who had been planning the event for some time.

This hugely popular event, now in it’s fourth year, included 36 licensed female and male drivers, 2 members of staff and 2 past pupils, 1 of whom was on a 104-year-old steam engine

George Tyrell of Edenderry, who is Chair of the Organizing Committee, said “This event is growing year on year. We are very grateful to all the drivers who raised money for this year’s nominated charity which is The Jack and Jill Foundation. An amazing €3,683.21 has been raised providing over 280 hours from this fantastic event. We had no costs and all funds raised will be going to the charity. This is made possible thanks to a few people who kindly gave us some help.”

Many thanks to JVW Transport out in Gowran. Also, special mention to McCarthy Commercial Vehicles for sponsoring the High Vis Vests and providing the breakdown assist, which thankfully was not needed; Agco Finance who supplied hats for all the drivers, JSJ Harris Transport for sponsoring the window stickers, which were sold as part of the fundraising. Thanks to KCLR (Matt O’Keeffe and The Farm Program) for the opportunity to highlight the event. Last but not least, thanks to Sgt. Gary Gordon/Garda Aidan Fitzpatrick and the Kilkenny Community Policing Unit. They have helped with the Risk Assessment process and helped the organisers on the night, along with their colleagues in the Traffic Corps.

The seven TY students involved in putting the run together are: George Tyrrell Chairman, Mark Dunne Secretary, Evan Gill, Philip Gill, Vicky Woods, Shannon Agar, Edward Neale. Rodger Tyrrell is also pictured (holding a picture of Ben) one of our Jack & Jill families. Ben sadly passed away on the 16th March, 2016. Finally two local companies have supported the event since it started four years ago. Denis McEvoy of Volvo McCarthy Commercials and Geoff O’Shea of Agco Finance. We thank them all!
