The Department of Social Protection is inviting submissions to its Public Consultation on the Cost of Disability, open until 5pm on Tuesday, 7 April 2026.
We encourage Jack and Jill families, past and present, to have your say.
Every family’s experience is unique, but many of the challenges and extra costs that come with caring for a child at home with a disability are shared.
By sharing your story or perspective, you can help highlight the real impact of the cost of disability and contribute to shaping future policy.
Your voice matters, and together we can help ensure families like yours are heard.
How to share your views
This consultation is open to everyone. The government would particularly like to hear from disabled people, their families and carers, their representative groups, and Disabled Persons Organisations (DPOs/DPROs).
If making a written submission is not accessible for you, you can make a video submission. Video submissions can be made in Irish Sign Language. You can also call the department to make a submission over the phone.
Before making a submission, please read the guidance document. It explains what to include when making your submission.
It is important to read the privacy information below as your submission may be published on gov.ie.
If you are contributing on behalf of an organisation, please provide the organisation name. Let the government know if it is a Disabled Persons Organisation.
If you are contributing as an individual it helps (but is not required), to tell the government if you are contributing as:
- someone with a disability
- a family member or carer of someone with a disability
- another type of contributor
The government will not name individuals, but all views may be published on gov.ie and feature as a summary in a report.
