What We Do

Jack & Jill is a nationwide charity providing in-home nursing care and respite support for children up to the age of 6 with severe to profound cognitive delay.

This may include children with brain injury, genetic diagnosis, cerebral palsy, and undiagnosed conditions. Another key part of our service is end-of-life care for all children up to the age of 6, irrespective of diagnosis.

Please note, we do not provide a service to children with a primary diagnosis of Autism (regardless of their cognitive delay) or children with complex medical needs without a severe to profound cognitive delay (This includes children with tracheostomies, muscular atrophies and muscular dystrophies).

The Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation is a child and family centred care service and believes that families should be supported to care for their children in their own homes. On receipt of a referral the Liaison Nurse Manager in that geographical location will make contact with the family.

Our service offers the expert advice of a Liaison Nurse Manager (LNM) who will advise, help and advocate for the family. The nursing team consists of 15 LNM’s, who bring a wealth of experience in numerous disciplines including ICU, ENT, cardiac, respiratory, orthopaedics, disability, bereavement, neurology, renal, primary care, risk management and neonatal care.

We work as part of the inter-professional teams in the community linking and liaising with Public Health Nurses, GP’s, Clinical Nurse Co-ordinators, Disability Teams, Hospitals, Hospices, Home Care Teams and Voluntary Organisations. We assist parents to organise and co-ordinate their home respite service, liaising and supporting the nurses and carers in the home.

Our role includes listening to parents and seeking solutions which can sometimes mean making representations to other health care professionals and the government.

The aim of our service is to reduce some of the worries and difficulties that come when caring for a child with additional needs while also allowing families to take a break. Our service is reviewed on a six monthly basis.
