Felix Sproll – World Landscape Photographer of the Year 2021 – heads up judging panel for Up the Hill for Jack and Jill Photo contest

By Adam Brennan | Latest News | Comments are Closed | 7 October, 2022 | 2

As part of the Up the Hill for Jack and Jill 2022 campaign, Jack and Jill have this year put together a fantastic photo competition, giving budding photographers an opportunity to have their work judged by some of Ireland’s top photographers.

We are delighted to announce that World Landscape Photographer of the Year 2021 Felix Sproll, has kindly agreed to join Team Jack and Jill to head up a three-person judging panel for this inaugural photography competition.

Felix, a native of Mayo, is a highly accomplished photographer and videographer and has been capturing images from quite an early age. And if being crowned the world’s landscape photographer of the year wasn’t bona fides enough for you,  just a few swipes of Felix’s Instagram account are enough to make you understand why he won this seriously impressive accolade.

What’s more, and what we felt made Felix such a fantastic choice to judge this competition for Jack and Jill, is that he is also an outdoorsman, known for documenting his hiking and travel exploits for many years, in amazing style.

It was that connection, between hiking, mountains, and photography that made Felix the perfect fit for the #UptheHill22 photography competition.

Joining Felix on the judging panel

Felix will be joined on the judging panel by two more amazing Irish photographers, Bernard Geraghty, (https://www.instagram.com/bglandscapetours/) Landscape Photographer, Hiking Enthusiast and 53 Degrees North Ambassador, and also Connemara based Astro, Surf and Wildlife Photographer, Aisling McGuire (https://www.instagram.com/aisjanephoto/).

Everyone is invited to join the fun!

We are inviting, and encouraging, all of our Up the Hill participants in 2022 to get involved in the competition. You don’t need to be a seasoned photographer. If you have a phone and you take a nice shot during your Up the Hill fundraising climb, we want you to submit it and get involved in the competition.

What’s more, if you have a nice photo from last year’s event, you can submit that too. We’ll explain more below.

The Details

The competition will be split into two categories

  • Landscapes  – shots of Ireland’s beautiful scenery
  • People – whether they’re mid-climb or on top of a mountain

All images must contain a hill or mountain (it is ‘Up the Hill’ after all!)

The image must have been captured between October 1st 2021 – October 31st 2022

All entries must be submitted by 11:59pm on October 31st 2022

In order to be considered for entry, the photographer must have registered for Up the Hill 2022 by visiting https://jackandjill.ie/upthehill and completing the registration form.

Only one entry per Up the Hill registration.

Prizes

The prize fund to the value of €750 is split into three individual prizes, one for each category of the below categories –

Prize 1 (Landscape category)– Regatta voucher to the value of €250 (kindly sponsored by Regatta)

Prize 2 (Landscape Catagory 2) – 1 to 1 Photography training session with Bernard Geraghty Landscape Tours to the value of €250

Prize 3 (People category) – Instax camera plus prints to the value of €250 (kindly sponsored by FUJI Film Newbridge)

Prize 2 comes in the form of a voucher for a professional Landscape Photography Workshop with Bernard Geraghty Landscape Tours.

The lucky winner will be invited to join Bernard on a hiking tour, venturing off into the hills with cameras in hand to see what it takes to capture the perfect landscape shot. The winner will learn the optimal camera settings and composition techniques you need to consider when framing your perfect shot.

All that is required is that the winner bring a DSLR camera. Bernard will provide any filters and accessories needed.
